How to leverage Google’s longer search snippets

A snippet is a small piece of information which Google shows at the top of the search results for any given search term. A lengthier search snippet from 160 characters earlier to around 320 characters now can enable a more detailed content of the webpage in Meta tags. With more words possible now, a longer promotional summary can be added and optimized better for search engines. For the users, it can be beneficial as he can choose the most relevant information in search results and then click on the website.

For the website owner, this will mean more genuine users and less accidental users. The website owner can provide a more detailed explanation of his website content. Meta tag descriptions are going to be more critical than ever for search ranking, so they need to be assessed for their relevancy.
Meta descriptions need to be more engaging and interesting than before. Putting useful information in snippet will tempt the user to the actual website. Information given should be relevant but not complete to invite the user to the site.

Analyze the target audience and re-structure the Meta tags. Compare the content and presentation with the competitors and make required adjustments.
Ranking among the top 5 search pages becomes all the more critical with longer snippets. A higher CTR (Click through rate) in present rankings is a must with better SEO. To encourage a user to take action and click on the search results, a CTA (call-to-action) can be given in Meta tag. It will prompt the user to act and result in higher CTR.

More words would mean more keywords can be added to Meta tags and more keyword variants can be used for better SEO. Longer snippets increase the relevancy of the first page like never before. So making the first page more interesting and avoiding repetitive and avoiding cliched matter becomes necessary.
